The Almond Tree is a place where we are passionate about caring for and nurturing babies-at-risk.
HIV/AIDS, poverty and substance abuse are the main contributing factors that result in abandonment, neglect and abuse of children in South Africa.
The Almond Tree is dedicated to caring for and rehabilitating every baby that comes through our doors. The Almond Tree has dedicated trained staff who understand traumatized babies. Our babies have very real needs, to not only be fed and clothed, but to learn to love and trust and to be loved and cared for and guided into a positive purposeful future. It is our dream at The Almond Tree to play a significant role in our babies’ lives, giving them a strong foundation so that they can become adults who positively contribute to our society. At The Almond Tree we are purposeful in nurturing our babies physically, emotionally and spiritually. The Almond Tree provides an environment that is chemical free and as natural as possible, giving each baby the very best start to healthy development of their brains and bodies. The Almond Tree is dedicated to cooking and providing healthy food for our babies and staff. A vegetable garden is grown on the premises to assist with this.
The Almond Tree began from the home of Charmaine and Kent McQueen. Over many years of being exposed to children-at risk in South Africa and seeing how adversely HIV/AIDS, poverty and substance abuse have affected children in our nation, Charmaine and Kent decided, by the leading of the Lord, to open The Almond Tree.
The Almond Tree offers Temporary Safe Care and Permanent Residential Care to vulnerable babies and children under a Child & Youth Care Registration, providing an environment where all are valued as members of The Almond Tree family.
We work intensely with various courts and social departments in the field of child advocacy. We speak up and for our babies. The Almond Tree has a passion for adoption and foster care and so we assist with these processes as far as we are able to. The Almond Tree networks with various NPO’S and social departments with the purpose of sharing resources, knowledge and training in the field of Child and Youth Care.
At The Almond Tree we facilitate optimal development and stimulation of each baby as an individual, providing a stimulating, creative learning environment. Much time is spent in prayer for our babies and the work which we do. Charmaine and Kent are dedicated to disciple their staff and babies, teaching them the ways of the Lord.
